Girl Scout Offerings 2016-2017

girl scout Walden West is excited to announce our Girl Scout programs which will run through the Abby Sobrato Science and Sustainability Center. All programs, with exception of the high ropes course, run rain or shine so dress appropriately and wear sturdy tennis shoes!

DAISIES- Terrific Trees

During this Terrific Trees program, girls will walk through the forest and participate in a "tree treasure hunt" to observe and describe the basic structures of trees, textures of bark, and the size and shape of different leaves. They will work with wood by hammering and sanding to connect wood types with common household and school products, and will show their appreciation for trees by planting one to help the Earth. Walden West can help you earn your Clover – Using Resources Wisely and Rose – Make the World a Better Place petals.

Cost: $20 / Hours: 9:00-12:00 morning session 1:00-4:00 afternoon session – Includes an exclusive Walden West patch.

Dates: 10/29/16, 1/28/16, 3/25/17

BROWNIES- It's Better with Bugs

It's Better with Bugs is a fun program where girls get to be science detectives and experience a variety of habitats, including chaparral, riparian and redwood forest. They will observe the behavior of various insects in a micro-environment and learn how ladybugs are especially beneficial to the environment, through live observation and story. Girls will be both inside and out as they explore, and get to use scientific equipment as they learn and discover.

Cost: $25 / Hours: 9:00-12:00 morning session 1:00-4:00 afternoon session – Includes the Brownie Bugs badge and an exclusive Walden West patch.

Dates: 10/22/16, 3/11/17

JUNIORS- Brainy Birds

During Brainy Birds girls will learn about the industrious and expert nest builders whose beaks and tongues are perfectly adapted to take advantage of their favorite food, and some of the local habitats where they live. While being both inside and out, girls will create their own bird nests, dissect albatross boluses and learn the importance of reducing, recycling, and reusing products in order to protect the environment that these cool creatures live in.

Cost: $25 / Hours: 9:00-12:00 morning session 1:00-4:00 afternoon session – Includes the Juniors Animal Habitats badge and an exclusive Walden West patch.

Dates: 10/1/16, 3/4/16

CADETTES- Challenging Sportsmanship

Walden West is excited to offer the High Ropes Course for Cadette Girl Scouts. The Course is a maze of cables, ropes, and platforms suspended high in the trees. All participants wear harnesses and helmets at all times and proceed through the course in complete safety, while experiencing the perception of risk. Campers develop self-confidence, learn group cooperation, face and overcome fears and improve physical coordination.

Participating in our ropes course will get you one step closer to earning your Good Sportsmanship Badge, and an exclusive Walden West patch. This is a weather-dependent program, and will be canceled/rescheduled due to inclement weather.

All participants must be at least 10 years old, wear long pants, and closed-toed shoes.

Cost: $45 / Hours: 9:00-12:00 morning session 1:00-4:00 afternoon session – Includes an exclusive Walden West patch.

Dates: 4/22/17, 5/20/17
