Classroom Teacher Information

Outdoor School is an amazing opportunity for students and we hope to make it as stress free as possible for visiting teachers.  Remember most of the work is done before you arrive!  Below is helpful information to make sure we are all organized and ready for your group.  Direct line to the teacher room – 408-573-3061 (Saratoga) and 408-867-1120 (Cupertino).  Feel free to give this number to your family/school/parents. Wireless access is available throughout camp but cell reception is spotty at best!

  Cupertino Pre-Camp Visit Slideshow PPT

Before Camp

Walden West will contact you to schedule a Pre-Camp Visit for your students.  The presentation is 40 minutes and is designed to inform students about camp.  Please feel free to invite parents/friends interested in hearing more about camp!  Visits are generally two weeks before your school is scheduled to come to camp.  If you want to schedule a separate meeting at your school for parents, you can download the slideshow from above.

Recruiting Volunteers

Recruitment should begin once your school has a scheduled date. Volunteer cabin leaders (15 and older) are needed to join your group for their week at camp.  This is a great opportunity for your school to link to alumni and connect with past students and other teenagers in your local community.

Cabin Leaders:

  • Spend the week with your 5th/6th grade students at Walden West.
  • Assist and participate in all camp activities.
  • Stay overnight in cabins with students.
  • Hike on-trail with trail groups.
  • Earn leadership skills, service learning hours, a certificate of achievement and an evaluation.
  • Receive training and support throughout the week.

To help your school reach out, we have provided:

  1. Information to email (MS Word)
  2. Recruitment flyer to fill in with your scheduled date (Adobe PDF)

Emailing this information to your school’s staff/ parents, posting in the staff room/main office, linking to it on your school’s loop, posting it on alumni Facebook pages, or sending it to high school teachers in your area can really help provide the needed support for your week.   Cabin Leaders have a chance to be a part of campers’ life-long memories while meeting other cabin leaders and working closely with our staff and your classroom teachers

Walden West is happy to assist you with your recruitment and the processing of your volunteers. Contact our liaison directly at Leigh_Jones@sccoe.org to learn more.
